There’s something special about summer in New England. In the fall, it’s all about crisp apples, cider donuts, and colorful leaves—but when summer arrives, we bring out the berries!
Blueberry picking is one of those simple summer traditions that never seems to get old. Grab a basket, put on your sneakers, and spend a sunny morning wandering through rows of berry bushes searching for the biggest, bluest berries you can find. Of course, a few always seem to disappear before they ever make it into the basket!
One of the best parts about living in Massachusetts is that you don’t have to travel far to enjoy a little country escape. Local farms offer a wonderful opportunity to slow down, enjoy the fresh air, and bring home berries that taste so much better when you pick them yourself.
Ward’s Berry Farm in Sharon is a favorite summer destination for farm-fresh fun, while Meadow Mist Farm in Lexington offers another chance to enjoy the agricultural side of life just outside the city.
Bring the kids, invite the grandparents, or make it a summer outing with friends. Afterward, turn your harvest into blueberry pancakes, muffins, pies, smoothies—or simply keep a bowl in the refrigerator for snacking.
It’s a reminder of one of the things I love most about living in New England: every season gives us something new to look forward to.
🍓 Summer is for berries.
🍎 Fall is for apples.
🌻 And every season is a good excuse to visit a local farm!
